Karen Spiegel is the collaboration and induction/mentoring coordinator for Salem-Keizer Public Schools. Her span of 26 years in education includes being a classroom teacher in grades 5-8 and a literacy specialist providing professional development for elementary and secondary teachers. She has taught graduate courses in literacy, philosophy of education, classroom management, and beginning teacher induction at Western Oregon University since 1991. Currently she is the coordinator of the Salem-Keizer Collaborative, a partnership with Corban University and Western Oregon University designing and implementing a clinical residency model for pre-service teachers. Karen also coordinates a beginning teacher program for Salem-Keizer and eight additional surrounding districts serving 500 teachers in their first three years of practice.
